FAQ
General:
Can we try it before we sign up?
Every new student begins with a Two-Week Free Trial, with no obligation to sign a membership agreement or leave any payment information; you'll just need to sign a liability waiver before your or your child's first class. We want you to be able to judge our program's effectiveness for you or your child (and make sure your child is having fun!) without any strings attached. We also use this period to learn about your personal goals and design a plan to meet them.

How much do your classes cost?
You can find a complete list of our prices under the "Pricing & Schedule" tab. However, we offer several membership options based on the number of classes attended per week, from once per week to unlimited, ranging from $100 to $145. We also offer starter packages that include complete uniforms at much reduced cost. All of our pricing options include all regular student costs - there are no hidden fees!

Do you offer any discounts?
Yes! We offer discounts for every additional household family member that enrolls beyond the first. We also have discounts for military service members and veterans, 1st responders, teachers, and college students!
Youth Programs:
When are your classes and which ones are right for my child?
While a complete schedule of our classes can be found under the "Pricing & Schedule" tab, most new students should plan to come to their first class on Monday or Wednesday at 5pm if they are at least 8 years old, or on Tuesday or Thursday at a time based on their age for kids between the ages of 4 and 17. If you are still unsure of what the best day or time would be for your child, please feel free to contact us!

How often do we need to come to class?
Typically, our students find the most success when they attend at least two classes per week, but plenty of our kids do quite well attending only one class each week. It's most important that students attend class regularly and miss as few classes as possible, as repetition and structure encourage the retention of new information and physical gains.

My child needs help controlling their actions or staying focused. Can learning martial arts help?
Absolutely! Martial arts training at any age helps to develop mental and physical discipline. We'll work with your child to help them calm themselves when appropriate, or embrace their energy and excitement when it can help them perform to the best of their ability. We do this by offering both consequences and rewards for student performance throughout class, and frame much of our work on focus and self-control as games that make self-development fun for our kids. We also teach all of our students Five Principles of Conduct for which we expect our students to strive: effort, etiquette, sincerity, character, and self-control.

Will my child get hurt? Is it safe?
Safety is of utmost importance to all of our instructors. While any physical activity is inherently risky, we take an active approach to limiting the possibility of injuries. This is done not only through our teaching practices but also by requiring the use of safety equipment whenever appropriate.

My child has special needs. Is martial arts training right for him/her?
Definitely. Our martial arts programs are designed to be modified for any and all abilities, and we will happily work with any student to make our system work for them. On a more personal note, my older brother is autistic, and when we were children, I proudly watched him earn his black belt after years of training under Shihan Maryanne Weeden. It's my goal to carry on Shihan Maryanne's legacy, and I believe that all students should be able and encouraged to thrive in the martial arts. Period.

Adult Programs:
Do I need to be in shape to begin martial arts training? What if I have injuries or physical limitations?
No! We know that living an active lifestyle or eating healthy is not an easy task for a lot of people, and a life of accumulated injuries can make this even more difficult. But regardless of your current physical abilities, our programs can be right for you. We'll work with you to set personal goals and meet your needs, and we'll push you as much as you need to keep making progress. Our adult programs are flexible and designed for the individual; we actively modify our techniques to be effective for each student and aim to always remain aware of each student's limitations.

Can I get a workout from your classes?
Absolutely! Our adult martial arts programs are designed to allow you to get as much of a physical workout as you want in each class. As in most exercise, you get out what you put in. We combine drills that are intended to stress your cardiovascular and muscular systems with technical instruction and practical applications of our traditional martial arts curriculum. Not only will you be able to get a great workout, but you'll learn to defend yourself and your family in any situation.

How often should I attend class?
We generally see the most success when students attend class at least twice per week; however, we understand that many of our adults are incredibly busy, and always do our best to help them meet their goals, even if they can only make it to the dojo once a week. For those aiming to make quick progress or attain lofty goals, we have five adult classes throughout the week. We can design programs of study that will encourage growth and limit risk for the attendance frequency that works best for you.
